Fun fact: The Irish-American community in the US is 7x bigger than the whole Ireland’s population.

If you follow us on the blog, you know I’m totally crazy about Ireland. I even managed to take Frank on a remarkable Ireland road trip.

Actually, if it was up to me, our house would be full of Irish things, but Frank is the one holding me back. I don’t blame him, I can be a bit too much sometimes if you know what I mean.

Anyway, we have come up with this complete list of Ireland souvenirs ideas as well as some unique Celtic gifts for literally everyone you know, including you.

Note that these are either things to buy in Ireland, which I’ll indicate the address in Dublin, or items that you can just purchase from the comfort of your home (aka online), such as Irish clothing, Celtic jewelry, and more!

Irish alcohol & food – Our Favorite Irish Souvenirs

Irish alcohol is worldwide famous. It doesn’t matter if we’re talking about whiskey, gin, or beer, you have probably heard about one or two Irish brands in these categories.

And as good foodies, Frank and I love trying new beverages, preferably with snacks, of course! Anyway, we’ve listed below the best brands in each category, including some local foods that are perfect Irish gifts!

1. Traditional Irish Whiskey

First recorded in Ireland in the 14th-century, the word “whiskey” comes from the first word in the Gaelic phrase “uisce beatha,” which means water of life. Interesting to say the least.

Well, Irish whiskey was once the most important in the world, so this kinda proves the guys know what they are doing!

Jameson, Bushmills, and Connemara are some of the most famous ones, and they make up for perfect gifts too! Wouldn’t you enjoy receiving a bottle? I would! So my address is…

A little description of each one of these brands so you can decide on the best Irish gift for him and her (my grandfather loves whiskey, but so does my sister-in-law!).

  • Jameson: New Midleton Distillery in Cork produces Jameson and other local whiskeys. Jameson is a blend of low pot still and fine grain. A sweet and subtle whiskey with gentle notes of vanilla. Click here to find it on Amazon.
  • Bushmills: The world’s oldest distillery, in Northern Ireland, produces a blend of lighter grain and malt whiskey. A smooth warming taste that is sweet with floral aromatics – a must-try. Click here to find it on Amazon.
  • Connemara: Connemara tastes and smells like Ireland, to be honest – sweet, peated single malt with light spices and vanilla. Click here to find it on Amazon.

2. Irish Gin

  • Glendalough: Made of fresh and wild ingredients from the Wicklow mountains, this gin has herbal and floral tones that make it very special, and Irish! Click here to find it on Amazon.
  • Bertha’s revenge: Named after the world’s oldest cow, Bertha, who lived 48 years, this gin has a soft taste with sweet citrus notes. Click here to find it on Amazon.
  • Gunpowder: Named after the gunpowder tea from China, but with features of local meadowsweet. The flavor is bold with a fresh touch. Click here to find it on Amazon.

3. Irish Beer

  • Smithwick’s Irish Ale (3.8%): This clear beer with a rich ruby color has a delicate aroma. One of the best beers in Ireland, Smithwick’s has a gentle balance between bitterness and sweetness. Click here to find it on Amazon.
  • Guinness Draught (4.2%) – Our favorite: Rich, creamy, and famous worldwide, Guinness has a perfect balance between sweet and bitter with a coffee and malty nose. Click here to find it on Amazon.
  • Murphy’s Irish Stout (4%): Thick and rich beer with a dark roasted flavor and smooth coffee undertones. Yeah, drinking beer is almost art! Click here to find it on Amazon.

5. Chocolate Cadbury

One of Ireland’s favorite sweets, Cadbury is a must if you want to feel *a little* Irish. It doesn’t matter the form – Snack bars, bags, anything.

Just make sure you purchase some for yourself! Although the brand is very popular in Ireland, this is a British company.

6. Irish Cheese

There are several sorts of Irish cheese, such as Ardrahan, Blarney Castle, Cashel Blue, Cahill’s farm cheddar, and Dubliner.

Frank and I love cheese and living in the Netherlands only make our lives much easier because we can get tantalizing cheese pieces here.

But if I were to recommend one of the above, I’d say the Blarney Castle is the best one either for sandwiches or accompanied by a glass of wine!

7. Irish Tea

I’ve just mentioned tea, so why not go for the brand the Irish people adore?

Barry’s Tea is one of those Irish things you’ll find in all houses because, honestly, who doesn’t love a cup of tea with some bread and jam? See my happiness in the simplicity of this act? Food = happiness.

8. Irish Books

Irish authors are responsible for many classic novels that you probably have heard about or even read. James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, and Bram Stocker are some of a long list.

So why not make your next Irish souvenir a book? Or even better, purchase it to give to a beloved one. What could possibly be more meaningful than receiving an Irish gift bought in Ireland? I know I’d love that!

9. Mugs

Where are you going to drink the tea I mentioned above? In a Belleek mug of course!

These are Irish porcelain with a beautiful pattern from the town of Belleek (in Northern Ireland) and have a bright luster.

The design can have a Claddagh theme, a four-leaf clover print or Celtic motif, making it a very creative Irish gift if you ask me. (I adore the Belleek Celtic mugs!)

10. Teapot

Perfect Christmas or birthday gift for your Irish friend, descendant, or that person that just is fond of Celtic culture, like me.

This ridiculously pretty item is actually a teapot with a teacup, and you can fit water enough for two cups.

Also, this type of pottery is heat resistant, meaning you can put it both in the dishwasher and microwave.

However, you can only put filterest tea in it because there are no filters.

11. Irish Linen

Table and bed Irish linens are an affordable luxury you can present yourself with.

Also, if you’re looking for Irish gifts for him (father, husband, etc.), you might consider a handkerchief of Irish linen. It has an excellent touch!

Irish tea towels (aka dish towels) have unique and beautiful motifs and are a great gift too.

With vibrant colors, the traditional design gives your kitchen (or a friend’s kitchen) a whole new look!

They are so pretty that you might consider framing them…at least, that’s what my mom did! She sais it was too cute to use…

12. Photo frames

Photo frames make up for great Irish souvenirs! Why? Because they are detailed and have beautiful Celtic symbols or the meaningful Claddagh hands, which is a remarkable and yet simple Irish ornament.

Oh and often you can even find four-leaf clovers too. They look so delicate!

13. Wooden Wall Art

Frank and I love all sorts of wall art: print, wood, canvas, everything! That’s an issue because we don’t want to have a carnival-look decoration, but we still adore the many wall art pieces we have. Solution? Change them every now and then.

Anyway, this Ireland map is made on reclaimed wood and, it’s just the cute/ cozy thing I have seen! The seller can personalize it with coordinates of your preference and a heart painted on the city you choose.

Also, the rustic look is perfect for Ireland, don’t you agree?

15. Wall Clock

What time is it in Dublin? Well, it could be easier to know with a beautiful clock, right? But what about a skyline clock?

Whoa, that’s a whole new level! These handmade clocks are super stylish and well-done. On top of that, they’re made of sustainable wood and are available in two colors – great, right?!

16. Shamrock Decor

As you might know, the green shamrock is Ireland’s symbol, and this handmade sign is perfect for hanging on the door or leaning on your souvenir shelf.

We have one at home. Made of reclaimed wood, the seller also offers the possibility of choosing the size of it. Ideal for smaller rooms where space is limited.

Besides, this is the perfect Irish gift as it also symbolizes luck!

Irish clothing

17. Kilt

Worn both in Scotland and Ireland as a symbol of their Celtic heritage pride, kilts were historically worn by men, but nowadays you can see both of them wearing it.

In one of the occasions when I was in Dublin, I saw a parade of men wearing kilts and playing Irish instruments, among others. But I also saw school girls wearing kilts as part of their uniform.

Anyway, it’s a cool piece of clothing and entirely perfect to wear on St. Patrick’s Day!

18. Aran Sweater or Cardigan

Worldwide famous, Aran sweaters are a must-have! This traditional item is made of 100% authentic Irish Merino wool and has a cable pattern on the body and sleeves.

The “original” one is usually off-white, just like the one in the picture, but the seller also offers it in navy and dark gray.

On top of that, the cardigan looks ridiculously cozy, and the fact that the zipper pull is a Celtic knot just makes it completely cute!

19. Claddagh ring

Perhaps the most symbolic Irish gift you could give someone, the Claddagh ring represents love, loyalty, and friendship, that’s the meaning of the heart, crown, and hands respectively.

The motto “let love and friendship reign” makes it a perfect closing for a birthday card.

Popular among Irish and American Irish descendants, the Celtic Claddagh ring was first made in the 17th-century in the village with the same name in Galway.

Also, the ring is often given from mother to daughter. A beautiful tradition to say the least! And the one from the link below is made of 925 sterling silver, so it doesn’t turn your finger blue!

How should you wear your Claddagh ring:

Not only the ring has a symbolic representation, but the way you wear it also has a meaning.

  • If you’re not in a serious relationship, wear it on your right hand facing outward.
  • If you’re in a serious relationship, wear it on your right hand facing inward.
  • If you’re engaged, wear it on your left hand facing outward.
  • And finally, if you’re married, wear it on your left hand facing inward.

20. Necklace

Jam-packed with interesting symbols that convey its roots and motherland, the Irish culture doesn’t lack signs that make great wall art, as seen above, but also amazing pendants.

The Claddagh ring, trinity knot, shamrock, and Celtic crosses, knots, and blessings are just a few examples of gorgeous necklaces you can purchase as a beautiful souvenir.
